🌱 Role purpose

The Regenerative Landscape Manager works with Wedgetail’s team to help shape strategy, plan, and deliver effective regenerative management across Wedgetail’s Lighthouse Properties – The Quoin and Marathon – in the Northern Midlands of Tasmania.

Wedgetail’s Lighthouse Properties bring together conservation, restoration, sustainable use and adaptation, creating places where we can collaborate, experiment and learn about regeneration in practice.

A key focus of the role is to establish a clear ecological foundation for decision-making by identifying, mapping and prioritising the regenerative values (nature-based targets) of each property, guided by the Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation. From there, the Regenerative Landscape Manager helps translate agreed priorities into practical and achievable programs and supports the properties team to deliver an integrated regenerative approach using adaptive management techniques.

The role also helps connect our work at the property scale with the broader landscapes in which we operate and with Wedgetail’s wider portfolio, so that learning and opportunities can travel beyond individual properties.

Working closely with the Head of Foundation, properties team, Head of Impact and capabilities from across the whole Wedgetail team, the Regenerative Landscape Manager helps build an integrated approach to stewardship that delivers strong outcomes for nature while increasing our understanding of how regeneration happens in practice.

🐝 Key responsibilities

Strategy and planning

• Define regenerative values and priorities: Lead the development of our conservation priorities into a clear set of regenerative values (nature-based targets) for our Lighthouse Properties – identifying, mapping and prioritising the ecological values, threats and opportunities that guide management and longer-term regenerative planning.
• Regenerative planning and prioritisation: Build from these regenerative values to help shape and prioritise the direction of each Lighthouse Property within Wedgetail’s broader strategy – bringing together conservation, restoration, sustainable use and adaptation with opportunities for experimentation, connection and learning.
• Develop and maintain work programs: Translate agreed priorities into annual and longer-term work programs, identifying actions, sequencing, timeframes, resources, budgets, dependencies and measurable outcomes. Apply adaptive management by monitoring progress and outcomes, using emerging evidence and lessons learned to adjust activities and priorities while managing delivery within agreed resources and budgets.
• Provide ecological and regenerative leadership: Bring strong ecological thinking to property decision-making and provide technical direction across weed management, ecological burning, feral animal management, restoration, land use, measuring and monitoring, and other aspects of stewardship, drawing on specialist expertise where required. Develop plans that respond to ecological conditions, changing climate and what we learn over time.
• Experimentation, research and collaboration: Identify and foster partnerships with researchers, practitioners and others to test new approaches, technologies and regenerative practices, build knowledge and generate learning through the Lighthouse Properties.
• Report on progress: Track and report on progress against property plans and priorities, including outcomes, challenges and learning, providing regular updates to the team and leadership.
• Connect to the broader landscape: Help identify opportunities for the Lighthouse Properties to contribute to regeneration beyond their boundaries, including through neighbouring landholders and regional partnerships.
• Monitoring and learning: Work with the Conservation Projects Officer, Ecosystem Intelligence Lead, Head of Impact and others across Wedgetail to use monitoring, research and evidence to understand landscape change over time, evaluate our approaches and inform how we manage and adapt the properties.
• Connect learning across Wedgetail: Contribute insights and learning from the Lighthouse Properties to Wedgetail’s broader portfolio and bring relevant ideas, knowledge and approaches from across the portfolio back into the properties.

Operations

• Oversee on-the-ground execution: Oversee and contribute to on-the-ground execution of property management plans, including weed management, ecological burns, measuring and monitoring, infrastructure maintenance, and other activities.
